EVS Surfaces UNDERMOUNT SINK SYSTEM INSTALLATION TIPS

NOTE: Visioneer® Countertops are considerably heavier than laminate countertops. Two people are required to move the countertops and to lift them onto the cabinets. This is especially true when a sink is installed in the top.

STEP #1: SELECTING THE BEST ASSEMBLY PROCEDURE

Visioneer® Solid Surface Sinks are designed to install as easily as a "drop-in" sink. There are two different assembly procedures that you can use. The size of the Visioneer® top you're working with will determine which assembly procedure will work best for you.

For sinks going into a relatively small countertops (under 8 feet in length and, a kitchen or vanity top - not a wide island) that is not mitred or joined to another piece, follow Procedure 'A' for a small countertop below.

If you will be undermounting the sink in a larger countertop, especially one that is mitred or joined to another piece, you will be using Procedure "B" below.

STEP #2: GETTING STARTED

Before installing the Undermount Sink, unwrap and clean off all countertops, carefully checking for size, fit, cut out location, and damage. When satisfied with the condition of the countertops, remove the sink from it's carton and repeat the inspection process. Do not install a sink in a countertop if either of them have to be sent back for repair or replacement. Installation labor costs are not covered under the warranty.

STEP #3: PREPARING FOR ASSEMBLY

Study the line drawing side view of the Mechanical Undermount System enclosed in the sink shipping carton to acquaint yourself with how the undermount sink will be attached to the countertop.

Working with the countertop upside down, check the fit of sink in the undermount cut-out. When satisfied with sink fit and familiarized with how it will be positioned in the countertop, remove the sink and clean the edges of the sink cut-out, as well as the exposed bottom of the ¼" Visioneer® Sheet, with a solvent such as lacquer thinner, acetone, or denatured alcohol, removing any grease or dirt that occurred through handling. Repeat this cleaning process on the top of the sink rim.
NOTE: If you are working with a larger countertop, skip to STEP #4B below.

STEP #4A: ATTACHING THE SINK

Procedure 'A'/ Small Countertop
[You will not be using the "Quick-Mount" Installation Aid with this procedure.]

While still working with the countertop upside down, apply a liberal bead of SILICONE ADHESIVE CAULK (shipped with the Sink) to the bottom of the ¼" Visioneer® Sheet, approximately ½" in from the edge of the cut-out, where the sink rim will seat.

Seat the sink in the cut out using a firm and steady pressure, making sure the sink is centered in the cut out, and that the front of the sink is positioned to the front of the counter top. Attach the METAL RETAINING CLIPS where indicated and tighten securely.

Using two people, tip the top on edge. Carry the top on edge to the cabinet it will be installed on and set it in place. While the SILICONE ADHESIVE CAULK is still wet, remove any "squeeze out" from the lip of the sink bowl with a solvent such as lacquer thinner, acetone, or denatured alcohol.

When installing the sink faucet, drill the faucet hole(s) from the top down using a sharp, fine tooth hole saw. Apply the SILICONE ADHESIVE CAULK around the faucet hole to prevent against water seepage.

STEP #4B: ATTACHING THE SINK

Procedure 'B' / Large Countertop
[You will be using the "Quick-Mount" Installation Aid with this procedure.]

For this method, you will actually be undermounting the sink after the countertop is installed. Remove the sink and the Quick Mount Kit from the shipping carton. Place the two threaded lifting rods through the holes in the wooden lifting bracket (A) and set the bracket in the bottom of the sink base cabinet with the rods standing upright. Place the sink over the lifting bracket in the sink cabinet, maneuvering the rods through the sink's drain holes.

Install the countertop on the cabinet along with any pieces it is joined to (see countertop installation tips). Apply a thick bead of SILICONE ADHESIVE CAULK (shipped with the Sink) to the sink rim, approximately ½" in from the edge of the bowl. Make sure the bead is continuous around the sink rim.

Position the two wooden support brackets (B & C) on top of the countertop over the sink hole, running across the deck front to back with (B) on the left hand side. Elevate the sink guiding the two lifting rods through the holes in the wooden support brackets. Attach the nuts to the threaded rods and ease the sink down until the nuts rest on the support brackets.

Lift the sink from underneath centering it in the cut out and seating it in the top, while a second person tightens the nuts down to hold the sink in place. (Do not over tighten. The only purpose of the Quick-Mount Installation Aid is to hold the sink in place while you complete the undermounting process.) Check the position of the sink one more time from above making adjustments as needed. Attach the METAL RETAINING CLIPS where indicated and tighten securely. The 'Quick-Mount' system can be removed now.
